Cong loyalists demand probe into dissidents visit to Delhi | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Jammu, Aug 5 : Loyalists in the state unit of the Congress have demanded a probe to determine who were the people or the agency that funded the recent visit of senior party leaders, belonging to the camp of dissidents, headed by the union Health Minister, Ghulam Nabi Azad to New Delhi. Senior Congress leaders belonging to the camp led by the PCC chief Saif-ud-Din Soz said that a large flock of dissidents stayed in Delhi for a number of days for the sole purpose of meeting various top party leaders, including the Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, AICC General secretary, Rahul Gandhi and others as part of their campaign against Soz. These dissidents flew to Delhi by air and spent days in air-conditoned hotel. The loyalists want a thorough probe for identifying the person or persons who had funded the air-fare and met the heavy hotel expenses. They said that these dissidents had not only maligned the image of the Congress that shares power with the National Conference but had soiled the image of the ruling coalition that was engaged in a tussle against the separatists. The loyalists have complained to the party high command that instead of strengthening the Congress and the coalition Government the dissidents had simply remained engaged in "ouster Soz campaign. "They said that the dissidents had been enraged over the way Soz had succeeded in increasing the membership of the Congress in Jammu and Kashmir. Explaining the reason of the discomfiture on the part of the dissidents a senior PCC leader said that the Azad camp was worried because they had fears that during the next party elections the Soz camp may get most of the PCC posts. This was not to the liking of Azad who is keen to retain his hold on the party in Jammu and Kashmir. The loyalists have conveyed to the party high command that the dissidents have displayed utmost disrespect to the PCC leadership. The party high command has been told that at one stage the dissidents had boycotted the meetings convened by the AICC general secretary and union Minikster, Prithvi Raj Chavan in Jammu. They said that by doing so the dissidents had challenged the authority and position of Chavan. The party high command has been told that when the Deputy Chief Minister, Tara Chand boycotted the All Party meeting convened by the Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah, the DCM had blamed Soz for not inviting him but the fact of the case was that as Deputy Chief Minister he was supposed to be cohost the meeting.
