| Anti-terror mechanism: Pak proposes 3-member committee | | | Islamabad, Oct 24 Pakistan will suggest to India that a three-member committee headed by senior foreign ministry officials of the two sides be set up to oversee the proposed joint anti-terror mechanism, its Foreign Minister Khurshid Mehmood Kasuri has said.
"Our side will propose (at next month's Indo-Pak Foreign Secretary level talks in New Delhi) that it (mechanism) should be headed by additional foreign secretaries and include two relevant people from each side," Foreign Minister Khurshid M Kasuri said.
Kasuri was reacting to National Security Advisor M K Narayanan's remarks that India will propose a two-tier mechanism to oversee the functioning of the joint mechanism.
The reference to "relevant people" by Kasuri was apparently towards offcials of intelligence agencies and home ministries, Dawn newspaper reported.
Formal discussions were on to formulate a broad framework of the anti-terrorism mechanism which would be a key item on the agenda of the upcoming foreign secretary-level meeting, he said.
Foreign Secretary level talks to review the third round of Composite Dialogue process would be held in New Delhi on November 14-15.
He said the proposed joint would address concerns of both the countries and help bridge the trust-deficit.
The Pakistan proposal, however, was in variance with what Naryanan had spoken on the issue in a recent interview.
"We have a two-tier mechanism in mind but we haven't as yet got the approval of Pakistan. It hasn't been formally presented to them. I think it will only be presented at the time of the Foreign Secretary meeting," Narayanan said. |
