Various students’ bodies protest “anti-India” slogans | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Aug 11:Various student organisations today staged protest demonstrations against the incident where in some miscreants allegedly raised anti-India slogans yesterday out side the Jammu University gate. The students led by representatives of different student bodies gathered near Fountain Plaza on campus and raised slogans against the police for allegedly allowing some youth to raise ‘anti-national’ and ‘pro-freedom’ slogans. “Even as some youth were raising anti-national slogans outside the campus, the police officials present there remained mere spectators and did not initiate action against the culprits. It was a well-planned conspiracy to disrupt communal harmony and brotherhood in Jammu region,” the protesting students alleged Demanding arrest of all those involved in raising anti-India slogans,the protesting students locked the main gates of the campus and also torched the Pakistani flag. Carrying tri-colour in their hands, they demanded all such persons be booked under the sedition charges at the earliest. “The students will not tolerate such acts which are aimed at disrupting the secular fabrics and communal harmony,” they maintained. The agitated students also disrupted the examinations at some centres established inside the campus and called for closure and boycott of classes from tomorrow till the arrest of all persons who had raised “pro-Pakistan” slogans. Controller of Examinations Jammu University Prof G N Bhatt informed that the protesters disturbed exams of various subjects at 17 examination centres established on university campus. He, however also stated that no exam has been postponed in the wake of today’s protest and the exams would go on as per the schedule. Similarly, the students of Government Gandhi Memorial Science College, Government Commerce College, Government MAM PG College and Government College for Women Parade also boycotted their classes and took out protest march. “Yesterday’s incident has shaken the faith of Jammu people particularly students in Police department as handful of youth raised anti-national slogans in presence of police officials. Police officials allowed these youth to go without arresting them,” Pratap Singh, vice president Jammu Joint Students Federation said. Earlier, Students Scholars Joint Action Committee also condemned the incident and demanded high-level probe into it. Addressing media persons, Mohinder Pal Singh Pandu described these slogans as a well planned conspiracy rather than an emotional reaction with a motive to disturb the peaceful atmosphere of Jammu. National Conference Students Union (NCSU) also protested the incident of raising anti-national slogans by some mischievous elements. Later in the day, a NCSU delegation called on Superintendent of Police South Rajeshwar Singh. The students urged the senior police officer to take stern action against those who are trying to create a wedge between the students of the university Pahari Speaking Students Union (PSSU) also criticized the incident of chanting of pro-Kashmir, pro-freedom and allegedly anti-India slogans in a press conference held in the university campus today.
Addressing the media persons, president PSSU Kadir Khan demanded stern action against those involved in yesterday’s incident.
National Students Union of India (NSUI) has also strongly condemned airing anti-national slogans by some youth.
State NSUI president Abdul Rashied Choudhary said that it was done at the behest of some anti-socials who want to disturb the prevailing peace in Jammu region.
It is worthwhile to mention here that about 40-odd youth including some students of Jammu University had raised “anti-national” and “pro-Pakistan” slogans outside the Jammu University on Tuesday morning to lodge their resentment against the ‘killing of people’ in Kashmir in police and CRPF firing. Police have registered an open FIR in this case.
