Chamber regrets its non-inclusion in PM’s meet | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Aug 12: Different trade organization, prominent members of civil society today held a meeting under the chairmanship of Y.V. Sharma, president Chamber of Commerce and Industry welcoming the initiative taken by Prime Minister in convening all party meeting to discuss ways and means to defuse the crises in the valley It was felt that such interaction aught to have been undertaken earlier. Welcoming the constitution of the expert committee by the Prime Minister for formulating job plans, members however regretted the non-inclusion of the representative of Chamber of Commerce & Industry Jammu. The meeting urged the government of India to stop Kashmir Centric policies immediately and instead treat all region of the state equally. For the last 63 years, people of Jammu have been the victim of neglect and discrimination from both the state and central government and it is evident in every sphere be it representation in state legislature and Parliament. In view of the large area and more population than the valley, unemployment, developmental activities, surface transport connectivity, education, electrification, indifferent and callous attitude of the bureaucracy towards the people of Jammu is the order of day, they alleged. If the people of Jammu do not revolt, stage bandhs and hartals, it should not be taken far-granted that they will always remain mute spectators to all-round discrimination; it was held in the meeting. It is high time that the state and the central government addresses the genuine aspiration of the people of Jammu and take effective steps to remove the genuine grievances of the people. Secretary General Satish Gupta briefed the meeting that although the government has agreed in principal to Chamber’s demand for extending the date for filing of VAT returns and deposit of tax in view of the curfew and prevailing abnormal situation of the Valley where millions of rupees of Jammu traders have got struck but till date no SRO for extending the date and the order for amendment in the provident fund act to increase the number of employees from 5 to 10 has yet been issued. While condemning the delay, members asked the government to stop this callous attitude and instead solve the issue agitating the people with promptness and sincerity.
