CRPF occupation affects Kathua hospital adversely | | | Manuj Kesar EARLY TIMES REPORT Kathua,Aug 12: As if inadequate facilities and congested building was not enough to make patients visiting the Mahatma Gandhi and Maternity Hospital `sick’ that the CRPF reoccupied the building to add to their woes. It is pertenient to mention here that Government of Jammu and Kashmir sanctioned 200 bedded Maternity hospital for child and women to Kathua in 2003. However, a part of the hospital building is occupied by the Kendriya Vidhalya and other part is occupied by the CRPF who had their headquartesr there. Earlier CRPF had agreed to vacate the building but a few days ago, they shisfted back to the hospital building. The occupation of the hospital building by Kendriya Vidhalya and CRPF has subjected the patients, their attendants and the general public of Kathua to great inconvenience. Lack of drinking water and toilet facility make it very difficult for the patients and their attendants especially on the immunization days when people from farflung areas throng the hospital. The hospital receives more than 150 patients daily on an average basis. A small operation theater allows the doctors to perform small surgeries only. There is a labour room as well but it is non-functional. The health minister during his last visit had directed the district development commissioner to get the hospital building vacated but no action has been taken till date. Hospital Superintendent Dr Bharat Bushan said we have adequate staff but only problem we are facing lack of infrastructure. Hospital Administration constructed new OPD block for the patients where they get every facility including ECG, Ultrasonography, X-ray and routine tests. . He admitted that patients are facing problems due to accommodation. CRPF authorities had vacated the building few days ago but due to rainy season they again captured the building and may stay till end of rainy season. |
