Following attack, security beefed up in Rajouri-Poonch | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT RAJOURI, Aug 12: Following Wednesday’s militant attack on an army and civil vehicle in Thanamandi area, police have intensified vigil keeping in view Budha Amarnath Yatra and Independence Day. As Deputy Inspector General of Police Poonch-Rajouri Range SDS Jamwal had already stated that there are possibilities of militant attacks on the eve of Independence Day and Budha Amarnath Yatra. Yesterday militant attack in Thanamandi area has forced the security agencies and police to intensify vigil so as to avoid any untoward incident. The militants had attacked an Army jeep injuring two Jawans while two civilians were killed and 19 injured in the attack. Following the attack, police has intensified security in the area. As the Budha Amarnath Yatra is going to pass from the area on August 13 and 14, administration is very particular to avoid any untoward incident in these days. The Yatra is being followed by country’s Independence Day which always remained on the target of anti-national elements and this year, as per police, militants are planning attacks but they will be defeated as claimed by the DIG. Talking to media persons here Deputy Superintendent of Police Headquarter M Rouf Lone said that Budha Amarnath Yatra and Independence day are challenge in front of the police but they have already prepared themselves to deal with any situation in the area. He said that all bids of anti-national element will be foiled and both these events might be finished peacefully. Saying that police is going to take stern action against all those drivers who will be caught having no number plate on their vehicles. This is crime and people should avoid indulging in crime, he said.
