Dental College students stage protest against Govt | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Jammu, Aug 12: The students of the Indira Gandhi Dental College, Jammu have castigated the state government for its apathetic attitude towards the students undergoing dental courses in the college. About three hundred students of the Dental College have resorted to strike in order to protest against the de-recognition of the institute by the Dental Council of India (DCI). The Dental College students’ strike entered the third day today. The striking students alleged that they have been betrayed by the government adding that DCI has been conducting inspections of the college for the past six years and has been directing the college authorities as well as the government to make up for the deficiencies in the college. The first batch of Indira Gandhi Government Dental College started in the year 2004 and presently there are six batches running in the Dental College at Jammu. The striking students regretted that the college has been de-recognized by the DCI on the grounds namely not having a Principal, shortage of Professors and Readers in the Department of Prosthodentics, Oral Pathology, Conservative Dentistry, Oral Surgery, Oral Medicine, Periodentics, Orthodontics and Public Health besides shortage of infrastructure in the college as pointed out during the latest inspection, for which no corrective measures were taken. The affected students came down heavily upon the State Government as well as the authorities concerned for not fulfilling the requirements well in time despite the DCI’s direction.
