| Jawan dies in bunker collapse near LoC | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT
RAJOURI, Aug 12: An army trooper died while another escaped from Line of Control when their bunker collapsed in Sagra Balnoi area in Mendhar tehsil of Poonch district.
The incident took place due to heavy rainfall going on in the area for the last 24 hours.
Defence sources said that two trooper of 898 AT Company of Kishna Ghati Brigade were performing surveillance duty at Sagra Post of Line of Control at about 5 am on Thursday when the bunker in which they were guarding the border collapsed. One trooper namely Daleep Shaka bearing No 6384542W resident of Assam buried alive under the debris of the bunker. However another trooper escaped from it.
Sources said that the incident happened due to incessant rainfall in the area for the last 24 hours.
Following the incident, troops launched rescue operation but they could not save the life of their colleague. Daleep was shifted to Sub District Hospital Mendhar where after conducting his post mortem, the body was dispatched to Rajouri.
It is pertinent to mention here that this is the 2nd such incident for the last 15 days when an army trooper has died due to bunker collapse.
On July 29, a Border Security Force Head Constable Narpath Singh of 76th Battalion of BSF died of Bunker collapse due to heavy rains along the Line of Control in Poonch district in Balakote area in Poonch district. One Constable Santo Dass was injured and hospitalized in this incident.
