Seeking admissions in private tutorials to make up loss | Worried about kids' future, wiser parents start shifting temporarily outside Valley | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Jammu, Aug 12:Forty years old Shameema , resident of Barzalla in Srinagar had never imagined she would shift to Jammu in this hot and humid weather condition along with two sons. The elder son is in class 12th and younger one in 10th standard. Continuous strikes and curfew which has taken heavy toll on the education system is forcing many parents of valley to temporarily shift to Jammu or Delhi to make up the mounting loss of time in private coaching centres and tutorials outside Kashmir. Even as the situation in Kashmir Valley is gradually showing signs of improvement, with little or no major incident of violence reported during the last two days, but this is no way means resumption of normal life as the strike still remains enforced and uncertainty continues to prevail about protest programmes. This has left many wise and right thinking parents of Valley a desperate and worried lot, particualrly whose wards are in higher classes and in crucial stages of studies. Though voices of concern from political and government level have been echoed frequently over disruption and complete distraction of the education of children due to ongoing strikes and intermittent curfew periods, these have made no impact on the quarters where some realistaion should stir the souls. Having no option left, many parents have already left quietly along with children for temporary basis and many more are seriously exploring the options on similar lines. " I have already asked some friends to find out the status with some good coaching centres in Jammu......if they can accomodate my children with the existing groups or guide them separately .....the syllabus is huge and pending....wastage of two months is a collossal loss for carrer oriented students like my elder son who is simply frustrated", said Shameema. Her elder Son Aaqib is a meritorious student and has been feeling more perturbed for the last few days as his two tution mates have already left for caoching outside the Kashmir. One has gone to Delhi and the other has got admission in some tutorial in Jammu. Shifting temporarily means quite a huge expenditure which all the parents cannot afford to incur. However, seeing unceratinty of their kids in a system that is still in limbo as far as the education is concerned, they are left with no alternative than to make arranagements in desperation. There are many students in higher levels of education, for instance in Universities who have on their own decided to move out of valley till complete normalcy is restored and the education system is back on rails."Even if the classes resume very soon , no amount of hardwork either by students or the teachers can make up the loss of time........", said Tuafeeq, a University student who has decided to shift to Delhi along with her brother, a businessman. Though hartals and curfew have hit life on all fronts, but it is the education of children which has been worst hit during the past two months. The unfortunate aspect of the story is that the saner voices who realise this loss are few and do not dare say anything openly about it. "Financial loss particularly to small time traders is also mounting but that is too small as compared to loss of educatioon of children", said Hamid who has three children , all of them comletely distracted from studies due to no schools and regular classes for a long time.
