Funding hampers ongoing Park project on Tawi: JDA | | | Early Times Report Pardeep Singh Jammu August 15: Much hyped claims of Jammu Development Authorities (JDA) of beautifying Jammu city is turning as a mere eye wash for the Jammuities. The mega project alongside river Tawi is halted due to many reasons whereas JDA objects that they are done with their responsibility. Structured with the estimated cost of Rs 38 Lakh, the project covers the area of around 55 Kanals, on the embankments of the river Tawi, according to sources it still needs Lakh of Rupees for completion. The project of Park along side river Tawi was started some three year back with the aim of making this spot as a view point for Jammuities and a place where Jammuities respite in summers, but after leveling the place JDA has pulled up saying that they have done their job. The condition of the park is visible that it is good only for pastures with shabby patches, wild grass and dogs roving all around the place is what this project was all about and knee long grass speaks of its own as it has never been mowed. Residents of the area took this initiative as a good step in the development of the area. “Opening of park in the area was beneficial for the residents at par, because the ever ignored area will get some importance after this park, but due to many reason with held with JDA, the work over the project has been hampered,” said Yash Paul. He also alleged JDA for defacing already dilapidated roads heading to the area, “the transportation of material for construction, has defaced the roads here,” said he. According to JDA officials, funding was the only constraint for stopping ongoing project. “This project is on hold till the government releases funds for the same, JDA had self funded this project till date but due to lack of funds in the JDA treasure we are helpless and have to stop this project,” said JDA official, wishing anonymity. He said that this project was started after the consensus of Chief Minister himself but not releasing funds must be best known to them, “we have done whatever was in our approach but this is a big project and it consumes huge money which is out of our resources,” said he. Jammu Development authorities have approached higher authorities for funding but received no response so far. “we have presented a proposal to the higher authorities regarding funds, but till date we haven’t received any response from their side, due to reason best known to them,” said JDA official.
