J&K marching forward on path of progress: Dy CM

JAMMU, Aug 15:
Like other parts of the country, Independence Day was celebrated in Jammu and its peripheries with great patriotic zeal and fervour, while Deputy Chief Minister, Tara Chand unfurled the National Flag at the main function at Mini Stadium Parade.
Deputy Chief Minister took salute at the march-past by contingents drawn from Police, Armed and Auxiliary Police, Fire and Emergency Services, Forest Protection Force, Civil Defense, NCC, and schools.
Greeting the citizens on the occasion, the Deputy Chief Minister remembered the great sacrifice of the freedom fighters who laid their lives to achieve Independence.
The Deputy Chief Minister expressed gratitude and paid tributes to all those army, para-military and police personnel who made sacrifices to protect the frontiers of the nation against the enemies’ attack. He said their deep sense of commitment, dedication and patriotism inspire all of us for which entire nation feels proud to salute them.
Cautioning people against forces inimical to peace, Tara Chand appealed to the citizens to maintain communal harmony and unity to restore peace and tranquility in the state, a pre condition for achieving prosperity and economic growth.
Asserting that the Jammu and Kashmir state is marching forward on the path of progress, Tara Chand said that in past five years special attention has been paid on the infrastructure development with generous assistance pouring in from the centre under Prime Minister’s Reconstruction Programme (PMRP).
He said this year the state has been granted a whopping annual plan of Rs 7200 crores by the centre, with special funds for the construction of bridges, roads, hospitals, schools and colleges, augmentation of power sector and development of all basic amenities in cities and villages under Prime Minister’s package.
Highlighting the policies of the present dispensation, Tara Chand said that the coalition government implemented sixth pay commission recommendations which benefited around three and half lakh government employees. He said that government is committed to tackle the problem of unemployment and in this direction an employment programme has already been announced. He said vigorous efforts are being made to create more employment avenues.
Referring to achievements in education sector, the Deputy Chief Minister said that the two central universities one for Jammu and the other for Kashmir have been, besides many new colleges are also being opened which will bring a revolution in the education sector.
Under JNNURM, UIDSSMT, BSUP, IHSDP, work on projects worth Rs 1200 crore is underway in various parts of the state to improve sewerage, drainage, water supply and other civic amenities in the state, he added.
The government has also spent thousands of crores to complete the sewerage scheme both in Jammu and Srinagar cities. Many new projects have been initiated by the coalition government for the development of tourism spots and preservation and conservation of heritage buildings, monuments across the state, he added.
Under NREGA scheme, the people are not only getting employment in the villages but the scheme also facilitated a new era of overall development.
Deputy Chief Minister expressed grief over the loss of precious lives in Leh tragedy. He said that the entire nation stand with the people of Leh who suffered enormously both in terms of life and property in the recent natural calamity, adding that the central and state government are engaged in rescue operation with full might.
