Bakshi Stadium episode has put a question mark on security agencies functioning in J&K | Himalayan feature | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Aug 15: Hurling of shoe that too by a suspended cop on Chief Minister during Independence Day, Parade in high security Bakshi Stadium at Srinagar today has put a big question mark on security agencies as well as J&K Police in the state. Though authorities are tight lipped over the episode and the cop was soon nabbed and taken to Sher Gadi Police Station for sustained interrogation, the security lapses during the Parade have tarnished the image of security agencies in the state. The authorities are however downplaying the whole episode by saying that the suspended cop who belongs to a remote village of Bandipora and was working as Head Constable in J&K Police is a psychiatric patient and he has done the act out of his sheer desperation. But this agreement does not seem convincing as the cop not only hurled the shoe on Omar Abdullah but also shouted pro Aazaadi slogans during the Parade. This clearly shows that the cop was under the influence of some separatist organisations who have hired him for disturbing the Independence Day function in Capital city of Srinagar. Though the proper investigation in the matter will provide all the clues about the motivation behind the act, but the million dollar question is that how he managed his entry into the high security Bakshi Stadium during the Parade which was barred for the entry of common man in view of the prevailing situation in Kashmir Valley. As the entries in the Stadium were restricted to pass holders and officials only how a suspended cop managed to snub the security agencies and cops on duty to manage his entry inside the Stadium. This question has perturbed the top brass of security agencies in the state as well as the police authorities. According to sources the security agencies can't absolve themselves by mere saying that the cop was a psychiatry patient who has been placed under suspension by the Police Department for such misbehaviours previously at a number of times. But there are no takers for such stories, sources added. Terming it a planned conspiracy to sabotage the Independence Day Parade in Bakshi Stadium, the sources said the involvement of separatist and anti-national elements in this particular episode can't be ruled out. They said the act can't be taken into isolation and the interrogating agencies have to deeply probe into the matter. As the act has brought a bad name to security agencies in the state, sources also don't rule out quick action against the erring officers by the Government. Sources said the initial investigations have begun and the investigating agencies will go deep in the matter to unravel the nexus if any between the security agencies and the separatists and anti-national forces in the state. Though drawing the conclusions will be premature at this stage however, sources said that the Government has taken the serious view of the episode and Chief Minister has also shown his total displeasure over the functioning of the security agencies in the state by terming the act as one of the greatest security lapse. |
