| JMC erases 25 shops, 100 structures amidst protest | | | EARLY TIMES REPORTER JAMMU | OCT 24 Amidst protest and mild strife Jammu Municipal Corporation today carried out its scheduled anti encroachment drive erasing twenty to twenty-five shops along with hundred other small shops at Nehru Market. During the strife, six policemen and three shopkeepers got minor injuries. According to officials of JMC, Gandhi Nagar police had already warned the shopkeepers to vacate their unauthorized constructions till today at 8 am. Today, Chief Enforcement Officer, Vijay Abrol under the direction of Joint Commissioner Administration Municipality, FC Bhagat accompanied by Enforcement Officer SD Tak, Kamlesh Chadha, Enforcement Inspectors and Police team reached the spot and started removing illegal construction around 12:30 pm. Meanwhile the shopkeepers resisted and raised slogans against the concerned authorities. In order to disperse the agitated mob, police resorted to mild lathi-charge. The agitated mob retaliated and in the clashes six policemen and three local businessmen received minor injuries. The drive concluded at 4:30 pm. Giving details about the drive, officials of JMC said that during the drive twenty to twenty-five unauthorized structures were dismantled along with hundred other small shops. Officials further added that they also seized four trucks of material from the site of anti-encroachment drive.
