Street lights in Janipur-Roop Nagar not working | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Aug 17: In yet another case of official apathy, street lights in Janipur-Roopnagar area, Jammu installed for benefits of drivers and for pedestrians, are not in working condition since past many years despite many reminders and representations from the locals to the concerned authorities. Locals alleged that there are at least 54 street lights on Paloura to Bantalab road, all of them in non working condition. They further alleged that non working of the lights is creating many problems particularly at night as there are many instances of the road accidents because of the negligence of the concerned authorities. President Chinore Shopkeeper Union, Lucky Sharma said that these lights are very important for travelers as it help them in safe traveling. He also said that if in case these lights work properly, chances of theft can also be reduced to the minimum level. Lucky Sharma demanded that these lights should be made functional soon in the larger interest of the public of the area. Locals Ramesh Chopra, Jagdish Chopra, Rishi Kumar, Rashpal Singh all criticized the Power Development Department (PDD) and Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) for miserable condition of these lights. They also said that what fun of the installation of these lights when they are not made operational. Former Corporator Subash Bhagat said that he had raise this issue with the PDD many times but no action has been taken so far. He stressed the need of operationalisation of these lights without any delay. Local MLA Bodh Raj said that JMC is solely responsible for the awful condition of these lights. He also said that this is the condition of many other areas of the winter capital. |
