Traders in all the major markets in Delhi will down their shutters for three days from October 30 in response to the Delhi Bandh, called by the Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT). ''All the markets will remain closed from October 30 till November 1 during the 72-hour Delhi Bandh,'' CAIT secretary general Praveen Khandelwal said. This is the second trade a bandh has been called by the traders in the last two months on the issue of sealing of commercial units in residential areas, which the traders feel will divest lakhs of shopkeepers of their source of livelihood besides rendering unemployed lakhs of those employed in these shops. Earlier, the traders had observed a Delhi Bandh on September 20 on the issue of sealing of shops in residential areas. The bandh had evoked a massive response in Delhi with a virtual shutdown in all the markets. The bandh also witnessed violent clashes between police personnel and the protesting traders. Mr Khandelwal said the traders would organise a 'gherao' of the Delhi Assembly on october 30 to protest against the sealing of their units. |
