EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, Aug 19: His hate for first wife and three sons from her, and the daily fight over his second marriage with an 18-year-old girl today culminated in the murder of a retired cop when his three sons allegedly stabbed him to death at their residence at Jagti in Nagrota near here this morning.
The dead -- Nazir Ahmad, son of Bagh Ali -- retired as Headconstable from IRP 13 Bn about six months back.
At least five of the family members, including Nazir's old mother, sustained injuries when they intervened to pacify the two sides.
Police sources said after Nazir attained superannuation about six months back, he married an 18-year-old girl against the wishes of his first wife and three sons -- Mukhtiar Ahmad, Javed and Salim.
While Mukhtiar is a special police officer (SPO) posted in Miran Sahib police station, Javed is a labourer and Salim, a driver by profession.
Sources said there was tension in the family after Nazir's second marriage and heated exchanges between him and other family members had become a routine affair.
Today, when Mukhtiar was getting ready to have breakfast at about 7 am, a fight erupted between him and Nazir.
As they grappled with each other, Mukhtiar's brothers also allegedly joined him. Nazir sustained severe stab wounds in the fight and died instantly, the sources added.
In the fight, Mukhtiar, Nazir's mother Marjan Bibi (80), brothers -- Mohammad Sharief and Jamat Ali -- and Sharief's wife Irshad Bibi were also injured. All of them were hospitalised.
While Mukhtiar and Javed were under arrest, Salim was evading arrest till late tonight, the sources added, saying they had been booked under sections 302 and 109 of RPC at the Nagrota police station.
After the matter came to the notice of police, cops rushed to the spot and evacuated the body to the GMC Hospital where post-mortem was conducted on it. Later, it was handed over to his family members for last rites.
Sources said the weapon of offence had also been seized.
