EARLY TIMES REPORT
Jammu,Aug 20: Even though state sports minister visited sports stadium, green fields and reviewed performance of the sports department with an aim to create good quality sports infrastructure for sports buffs in the state but now it appears the whirlwind visits have not yielded desired results.
Even after giving strict instructions directing the sports associations and others engaged in the job of promoting one sports activity or the other the children living in Jammu and other adjoining areas are devoid of a proper sporting facility.
The vast open spaces are either converted into parking spaces or marketing firms organise special shopping fairs and exhibitions at the behest of ignoring sports talent in the state.
There are very few grounds left in the Jammu city and in its periphery where children can step out and play in their spare time.
The plight of famous parade ground and mini stadium in the heart of the city is well known and no one in the area dare step inside the ground for sports activity.
Either the parade ground is booked for trade fair, exhbitions, politcal functions, state sponsored events, parking place but seldom sports activity takes place here.
The only happening place in Jammu where sportsman visit regularly play their favorite game is University play ground. The sports stadia is frequented by only select few children who want to become professionals and play regularly.
Residential colonies in the city including sainik colony, channi himmat,Trikuta Nagar, New Plot,Rehari, Talab Tillo, Janipur , Satwari, old city area do not proper ground for children to play.No effort has been made by the state government to develop sports infrastructure for children to groom young talent.
Recently when sports minister RS Chib went around for an inspection visit of the KK Haku sports stadia, he came out on a disappointed note and took the concerned employees to task for not properly maintaining the sports infrastructure. If this is the state of affairs at the world class facility imagine the plight of a play ground meant for common street children, a senior sports coach said lamenting poor sports infrastructure in the state. The local residents also complain of lack of sporting space for their children in Jammu and blame the govt for ignoring the sports department.
