EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, Aug 20: The superb five wickets haul by Imtiyaz of Ramban go waste after district Kathua clinched a thrilling 16-run win in the opening match of the inter-district divisional level (Under-19) cricket tournament, organised by the Department of Youth Services and Sports (DYSS) at MA Stadium, here today.
Earlier, Ramban won the toss and put Kathua into bat. Imtiaz created havoc in Kathua camp and plotted collapse bowling out the whole Ramban side for 86 runs in 13.5 overs. Romi Kumar (32 not out) and Arvind Kumar (22) were the main contributors from Kathua district team. For Ramban, Imtiaz was the wrecker-in-chief claiming five important wickets, while Ishfaq scalped two and Junaid one.
While chasing a meager total target of 87 runs for victory, Kathua bowlers made the rival side to taste venom by bowling a nagging line and teasing length and the team collapsed at 70 runs, thus losing the match by 16 runs.
Junaid (18) and Yasir (17) were the main scorers from the losing side. Banu Pratap was the pick of the bowlers from Kathua who took 3 wickets at crucial times, while Harsh Kumar, Romi Kumar and Sunil Kumar bagged one wicket each.
The match was officiated by Pankaj Sasan and Mukesh Kumar as umpires while Satika maintained the scorebook.
Earlier, Assistant Director DYSS, Ashok Kumar declared open the tournament while Rajinder Singh, District Youth Services and Sports Officer, Udhampur was guest of honour.
The tournament is being organised by DYSS under the overall supervision of SS Bali, deputy director youth services and sports.
The technical committee apart from others includes Ranji trophy cricketers Jagtar Singh and Suresh Singh; senior state cricketers Pankaj Sasan, Madan Mohan and Mukesh Sharma and the panel of experts from DYSS including Rajesh Dhar, BK Tickoo, Sadiq Hussain and Satpal Singh.
