Driving licences of 17 suspended

JAMMU, Aug 20: Even as the driving licences of 17 minibus operators have been suspended by the regional transport officer (RTO), Jammu, for indulging in violation of traffic norms, several others continue to make a mockery of the traffic system on the city roads.
The licenses were suspended on the recommendation of traffic police SSP Zahid Manhas. Apart from overloading, the punished drivers were found indulging in all sorts of traffic violation on the roads, causing inconvenience to other vehicle operators.Without naming two drivers, who were also allegedly indulging in violation of traffic rules, some people said action ought to be taken against them too.
One of the suspended drivers said he indulged in overloading at the behest of the vehicle owners.
Zahid said most of the punished drivers were involved in the violation of traffic rules and had been challaned many times.
