‘Reported move to drop Mattoo’s name as VC CU positive achievement’ | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Aug 20: Jammu State Morcha (JSM) has welcomed the report that the name of Prof Amitabh Mattoo for the appointment as the Vice-Chancellor of Central University Jammu is no longer under the consideration of central government. In a press statement issued here today, JSM said if the news item is true then it is a positive achievement of the people of Jammu region who have whole heartedly opposed his appointment as Vice Chancellor of Jammu Central University. It also goes to the credit of the Government of India that acknowledged the sentiments of the people of Jammu region and acted accordingly. However, the demand of the people of Jammu region has been partially fulfilled. The people of the region want that the Vice Chancellor that is to be appointed should belong to the region itself. JSM supports the demand that a person from Jammu region be appointed as the Vice Chancellor of the upcoming Jammu Central University as he shall be well conversant with the demography, culture needs of the region and shall take keen interest and put extra efforts for the development of the new University. The Vice - Chancellors appointed in these universities all-together ignored the local aspirations and persons with less qualifications and experience vis-a vis with local candidates, which includes Prof Amitab Mattoo; were appointed totally ignoring the genuine claims of the sons of the soil. However, in universities located in Kashmir Valley all the Vice- Chancellors appointed belong to the Valley. JSM appealed to the Government of India, particularly, President Pratibha Patil, Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh, Union HRD Minister Kapil Sibal, to appoint a good academician, a dynamic person who belongs to Jammu region as the Vice- Chancellor of Jammu Central University. It further urged that the appointment of the Vice Chancellor be made as early as possible so that the work for the establishment of Jammu Central University starts without any further delay. |
