Gutkha wrapper found in Limca bottle | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Aug 20: A gutkha (CASH) wrapper was today found in a Limca bottle, exposing the unhygienic storage and filling method of soft drinks here. The wrapper was detected in the Limca bottle after a man purchased it from a city shop. It is nothing but a blatant violation of the Prevention of Food Adulteration Act 1954. What has come as a shocker is the gross apathy of the health department authorities and Bureau of Indian Standards for not carrying out inspection of the filing plants of soft drinks here. The locals have urged the health department authorities to take requisite steps to stop the recurrence of such incidents, especially during the forthcoming festivals, to prevent the possible incidents of food poisoning.A doctor of the Government Medical College Hospital (GMC), Jammu, said that poor sanitation, unhygienic food handling and improper preservation and packaging of food were common reasons for food poisoning. The symptoms of food poisoning can range from abdominal pain, vomiting, nausea and fever to hepatic, neurotic or renal syndromes, he added. The area residents objecting to the negligence on the part of the company said that such incidents could not be ignored as they were against the interest of the consumers. They also pointed towards the possibility of adulteration in the soft drink. The bottle containing the wrapper of Gutkha clearly indicates the date, and place of filling. It was manufactured at Coca Cola bottling plant near Gangyal.Health Officer, Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC), Dr Anwar Choudhary said whenever any incident of this kind came to their notice, action was taken against the guilty.
