Simmering resenment against prolonged bandhs, people at 2 places in Valley defy bandh calls | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Jammu, Aug 20: In a significant development people at various places have defied the dictates of the pro Azadi and anti national elements by openly revolting against them and rejecting their bandh calls. According to sources fed up with constant bandhs and strikes in the Valley, the call of which is given by Hardliner Hurriyat group led by Syed Ali Shah Geelani and supported by other separatist factions, the people have now started opposing these calls and raising questions about the purpose of continuous shut downs. The sources said there is now brewing resentment among the masses against the continued strikes and the people who are dependent on the daily wages like, workers, rehriwalas, shopkeepers etc. have now started openly revolting against the dicates of Pro Azadi elements and secessionists for their constant bandh calls. The sources said in this regard significant developments have taken place in Kashmir Valley for a couple of days now as clashes were witnessed at two different places of the Valley between the bandh enforcers and those who were opposing it. The sources said that at a small township of Siligam on Pahalgam, Anantnag road the clashes were witnessed between the two groups of people when one group asked the shopkeepers to down their shutters in response to Hurriyat bandh call and the other group opposed it saying the people are now fedup with constant strikes as they have nothing to feed themselves. This resulted into a clash between the two rival groups and one person was also injured in the mele. The situation was however defused after the deployment of police in the area, the sources, said adding the tension however continues and there is apprehension that the two groups may again clash with each other. In another such type of incident the sources said at Krehhama, Ganderbal a clash ensued between the two groups one supporting the bandh and another opposing it. The group opposing the strike were also critical of Hurriyat leadership and blamed it for peoples' miseries and hardships, the sources added. They also warned the pro Hurriyat activists in the area to refrain from enforcing bandh on the shopkeepers and transporters who have been worst hit by near two month long strike now, the sources said, adding that one person was also injured in the clash. The traders and other business community members who defied the Hurriyat and secessionist dictates were heard saying that the conglomerate was the worst enemies of the people. Challenging the secessionists and pro Azadi elements they asked who will provide bread to the those people who are dependent on daily wages. The sources said that this feeling is now generating in length and breadth of Kashmir Valley with a section of people who has been hard hit by the constant strikes and bandhs is up in arms to revolt. Everywhere the people now asks where the prolonged shutdowns will lead them. In case the Hurriyat extends bandh call beyond August 25, the opposition to it will grow and people will joint such protests in different parts of the Valley, sources added. |
