Sham chairs State Medicinal Plants Board meeting

JAMMU, Aug 23:
Minister for Health, Horticulture and Floriculture Sham Lal Sharma who is also a chairman of J&K State Medicinal Plants Board today chaired a high level meeting of governing body of J&K State Medicinal Plants Board and State Level Steering Committee here today.
Speaking on the occasion, the Minister deliberated on the scope and potential of Medicinal Plants sector. He informed that the Government of J&K has already initiated the work under various components of State action plan on conservation, Development and Sustainable Management of Medicinal Plants in J&K by the line departments.
Sham appreciated progress made by various implementing departments and emphasized that all the departments must gear up for better performance and must struggle for achieving target in full. He also laid emphasis on dissemination of information about economic importance and scope of medicinal plants. Awareness and training programmes for farmers and general masses must be a priority.
Director ISM J&K Dr Abdul Kabir Dar apprised the meeting with power point presentation on the progress and followed up of the earlier decision. Different issues pertaining to Forest Department, SFRI, Horticulture and other research organization were discussed in detail.
Subsequently a detailed presentation of the progress in respect of National Mission on medicinal plants was presented by Mission Director of National Mission on Medicinal Plants for J&K, besides highlighting achievements made in this sector. He also presented an action plan of about Rs 13 crore for the year 2010-11, which was approved by SLSC.
Director State Forest Research Institute Chairman Technical core group of J&K State Medicinal Plants Board informed that the institute besides having raised 50,000 Amla saplings in collaboration with J&K State Medicinal Plants Board, has the capacity of providing 10 lakh medicinal plants of different species to stake holders and state mission on medicinal plants.
