Why is Shotgun an angry man?
10/25/2006 9:13:09 PM
Wednesday, October 25,
NEW DELHI: Bollywood star-turned-BJP MP Shatrughan ‘Shotgun’ Sinha is angry again. It has been nine months since he was “rehabilitated” in the party’s central office with some hype as the chief of the organisation’s cultural cell but does not know as yet what he is supposed to do. He is still looking forward to holding a meeting of his cell with the party president Rajnath Singh to discuss his ideas and get his role defined and also the required mandate to visit the four poll-bound states. Though he has poured his heart out against party general secretary Arun Jaitley, he is conscious to not say anything that might be taken as against the party leadership.
Sinha said,“I cannot initiate the cultural cell into action mode till I have a meeting with the party president Rajnathji and understand what our priorities and resources are and how far we could go. I can understand he had lately been unwell and had also been busy with other pressing work. I hope to meet him soon.”
On whether he is a dissident, Sinha shot back, “Why should I be labelled that? We function in a democratic set up in the party and I have always remained within the parameters of discipline, loyalty and never held any personal ambition like some others in the organisation.”
Sources said he wanted some small-time Bollywood actors to tour rural areas of election-bound states and give the saffron brigade’s political message through entertainment. But nobody is willing to foot the bills. The central party office directs it to the respective state units and the state units throw them back to the central office.
The erstwhile hero, popularly known as Bihari Babu, was not considered important to be consulted even informally when the party was deliberating on the name of a candidate for Bhagalpur parliamentary seat by-poll. An influential section in the party is holding his refusal to campaign for the party during the Bihar Assembly election against him.
