AWSC demands Income tax, railway concessions from 60 years of age

JAMMU OCT-25- Association for Welfare of Senior Citizens (AWSC) in a meeting held under the chairmanship of its President H B Khajuria discussed the problems confronting the senior citizens.
Member Parliament Madan Lal Sharma was the chief guest on the occasion.
The Association has urged the government for construction of one- room clusters with mess and medical facilities for senior citizens, Income Tax relaxation from 60 years against the existing limit of 65 years, provision of security cover to the senior citizens and extension of senior citizenship concessions by Railway from the age of 60 years.
Earlier, the General Secretary of the Association Kewal Krishan Mahajan highlighted the problems of the senior citizens.
The meeting felt the need for sorting out security problems of the senior citizens who have been living all alone as their children being away to various parts of the country on employment mission. The meeting stressed the need for preparing information of all such like citizens in various colonies by the local police so that their security concerns are addressed to avoid any untoward incident.
The meeting also hailed Sharma’s people friendly gesture especially with the senior citizens and described him as ‘man of masses’.
Addressing the senior citizens, Sharma assured that he would take up these issues with the state Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad and Union Finance and Railway Ministers.
Referring to the achievement of coalition government led by Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad, the Congress MP said that Jammu and Kashmir was the pioneer state in the country to start execution of development works in double and triple shifts and waging a war against the corruption. He said the State has the distinction of being the first and the only state in the country to pass a legislation providing for seizure and attachment of the property of the corrupt officials.
Sharma asked the senior citizens to rise above party politics and strengthen the hands of Azad to carry forward his mission of ‘Khushal Jammu and Kashmir’ and ensure all round and equitable development of all the three regions of the State.
The meeting was among others attended by Baldev Sharma, ex MLA, Ram Lal Anand, retired District Education Officer, Lekh Raj Sharma retired IAS officer, Col D N Sharma, Balkrishan Sharma, T C Sharma, retired Joint Director Planning, Comrade Des Raj, Giri Dutt Sharma, Chander Mohan, Bodh Raj, D N Dubey, retired Executive Engineer, D C Sharma, Banarsi Dass, retired Tehsil Supplies Officer, Mohan Lal and Kewal Krishen.
