Former IAS officer appointed as Election Commissioner | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT NEW DELHI, Aug 24: Harishankar Brahma, a former IAS officer has been appointed as Election Commissioner by the President. A Rashtrapati Bhavan Press release issued here today said “the President is pleased to appoint Harishankar Brahma as the Election Commissioner in the Election Commission with effect from the date he assumes the Office.” Brhama joined IAS in 1975 and has earlier been Secretary Power in the Union Government. With his appointment in the Election Commission he is going to fill the vacancy created by elevation of SY Qureshi to the post of Chief Election Commissioner after the last CEC Naveen Chawla completed his term. Brahma is said to be mainly a choice of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and with his appointment to the high office the three-member Commission has officers from IAS on all the three posts.
