KOCHI, OCT 26 A Japanese woman got a new lease of life, thanks to her Kashmiri husband who donated her a portion of his liver for a liver transplant at a private hospital here. The 41-year-old woman, Etsuko Kobayashi, and her husband, Mohammed Ibrahim Doonu had undergone the surgery on August 10 and have fully recovered, Dr H Ramesh, Gastro surgeon, Dr Abraham Koshy and Dr Mohan Mathew of Lakeshore hospital told a press meet here. The couple, who have two children, would be leaving for Japan on October 28. Dr Koshy said transplanting liver from a living person is more complex as both donor and recepient are at high risk. The connections between the arteries, liver and bile are technically very complex. Whereas, a cadaver transplant, in which the whole liver from a 'brain dead person' is taken out and transplanted, is simpler, he said. |
