| Two soldiers killed 19 including 13 soldiers injured | | | Srinagar,October 26 | Two troopers were killed and 19 persons, including 13 troopers and six civilians,injured when an Army vehicle collided head on with a passenger bus on the National Highway near Awantipora in south Kashmir Ananatnag District. The intensity of the collision was such that the army vehicle was ruptured and the debris lay scattered all over the road. Police said that an Army convoy was moving from Srinagar to Ananatnag that one of the vehicles in the convoy collided head on with a passenger vehicle at 9:30 this morning near Chenibugh Lethpora in Awantipora area of Anantnag, killing two Army personnel on the spot. "The passenger vehicle was moving at very high speed and skidded onto the middle of the road because of a tyre puncture," said the Station House Officer at Police Station Awantipora. "The skidding has probably caused the collision." The deceased troopers have been identified as Captain Premod of 97 Field Regiment and Subedar Delden Chhutup of 16 Punjab Regiment. The injured troopers were rushed to Army's base hospital in Srinagar while the injured civilians have been shifted to Awantipora hospital for treatment. The condition of some of the troopers is stated to be critical. "Some of the civilians have also been shifted to a Srinagar hospital for treatment," SHO Awantipora said. This is a second accident of its kind in the past one week raising questions about the safety level of roads and observing speed limits by drivers in Kashmir. Six troopers lost their life when the Sumo vehicle they were traveling in collided with a tipper in Nowgam area on the Srinagar Bypass. Traffic remained blocked for more than three hours before the two vehicles were removed to the side of the road to make way for the highway traffic. |
