JJSF pleads cause of child rights victim | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Aug 31: Jammu Joint Students’ Federation (JJSF) has taken serious view of the continuing violation of child rights in Jammu and Kashmir. Addressing a press conference here today, JJSF leader Thakur Varinder Singh (JJSF Leader) along with the victim girl said that state government has failed to enforce child rights in Jammu and Kashmir. He said that a case of child marriage came to their knowledge in Akhnoor Tehsil. Singh said that the case pertains to village Gandharwan in Tehsil Akhnoor. “A girl named Pooja Devi daughter of Late Romesh Chander and Kanta Devi who is only 15 years old was forced to give-up studies and thereafter, her marriage was fixed. According to school certificate, Date of Birth (DOB) of the girl is August 21, 1995 while the girl was married on August 11, 2010. She was married to one 32 year old Bunty Sharma of Vijaypur in District Samba. After the marriage was solemnized, she was ruthlessly beaten by her husband,” added Singh. The girl who was accompanying the JJSF leader also narrated the whole story. She demanded that those breaking the law should be put behind the bars and punished for their criminal actions. Others who were present in this press conference included Balvinder Singh, Rishkesh Bhardwaj, Waseem Choudhary, Dilbagh Singh, Pawan Singh, Dixon Singh and Suresh.
