ARMY organises human rights camp

JAMMU, Aug 31: Army organised a Human Rights Camp in the remote village of Gundna in district Doda under the aegis of Village committee and local NGOs working in Human Rights field.
This was the first camp of its kind to be organised in this area. It was conducted as part of awareness drive undertaken by Rashtriya Rifles Battalion located at Arnora (Doda), which aims at spreading message “Army for Human Rights” and to spread message that Army is the saviour and not violator of Human Rights. Unit has vowed that there will be no Human Rights violation and reiterated to the populace that Army will give due respect to the rights of locals.
Army also apprised the local populace of the provisions of the “Right to Information (RTI) Act” and sought feedback from the populace on those actions which may inconvenience to them. The event would go a long way in assuring the populace of the positive intent of the Army and the NGOs as well as help Army in improving methodology for conduct of counter terrorist operations without inconveniencing the innocent population.
Battalion has also established “Khuda Ke Bande : Human Rights Cell” at Arnora camp where free stationary, computer and clerk are placed for readily helping locals on Human Rights related issues such as discussion on any developmental issues of villages/ localities, promotion for cultural/ youth/ sports activities, seeking info under RTI, education/ scholarship related Govt schemes and policies on recruitment in Army/ CPOs / Police etc.
Human rights camp at Gundna village received a very positive response both from the populace and civil administration. They were very pleased to see the new humane approach of the security forces. Both the village committee and NGOs were all praise for the awareness drive started by the Rashtriya Rifles Battalion to create bonhomie and generating goodwill among the locals.
