| Insects found in Soft drink, action awaited | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Aug 31: A local news agency has reported that Insects were found in a soft drink bottle of a particular company in Samba district of Jammu region. According to reports, wrapper of Gutkha was found in a soft drink of the same company. The agency has reported that it is blatant violation of Prevention of Food Adulteration Act 1954. It has said that neither state health department nor Bureau of Indian Standards carries inspection of storage facilities. It has further added that apathy on the part of these companies in ensuring purity in the soft drink bottles is nothing but criminal negligence with the lives of people. Following the incidents, the locals have urged the health and family welfare department authorities of the state to take measures for hygiene and sanitation during the festivals. A doctor of the Government Medical College Hospital (GMC) Jammu said poor sanitation, unhygienic food handling alongwith improper preservation and packaging of food are common reasons for food poisoning. The symptoms of food poisoning can range from abdominal pain, vomiting, nausea and fever to hepatic, neurotic or renal syndromes. Health Officer Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) Anwar Choudhary said that whenever any incident of this kind comes to the notice of health wing of JMC, action as warranted under rules is taken. There is also provision of court case in this regard, he added. He expressed serious concern over the issue.
