Jammu residents fear outbreak of epidemic | Sanitation woes | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Aug 30: Winter capital of the state is on the brink of outbreak some major epidemic owing to sanitation woes in the city of temples. Situation has also become grave in the wake of eruption of water borne diseases on mass scale in Jammu region. Heaps of garbage can be seen lying unattended in many places of Jammu city. This is due to negligence of sanitation wing of Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC). JMC is seemingly in deep slumber as far as cleaning up of the drains and nullahs of the winter capital is concerned. There are many areas in the city where water gets accumulated in the absence of the proper drainage system. One can see heaps of garbage outside police station Parade. Locals maintain that they have complained to the JMC authorities about water logging and garbage but to no avail. When contacted, Health Officer JMC Dr Anwar Choudhary said they have started a campaign for ensuring proper sanitation in the winter capital from August 29, 2010. He added that JMC teams are regularly spraying in various areas of the city. “We have been appealing the local residents to cooperate in the cleanliness drive”, added Dr Anwar Choudhary.
