SPO killed by HM ultras in Kishtwar | | | KISHTWAR: Working as special police officer (SPO) for the past seven years, a youth was shot dead by three Hizbul Mujahideen (HM) militants in the remote Kursa Sounder village of Dachchan near here late Monday night. SSP, Kishtwar, Haseeb Mughal said three HM militants -- Zakir Hussain alias Khalid, Mohammad Yasin alias Junaid and Shabir Ahmad alias Imran -- fired at SPO Masood Ahmad Wani's house at Kursa Sounder late at night. The SPO retaliated, but his .303 rifle developed some fault as a result of which he could not continue his fight, he added. The three militants then entered his house. To save his life, the SPO jumped out of the window of his house into the street outside, but he was shot dead by the militants. Mughal said the SPO was killed on the spot after the bullets pierced his abdomen. The 32-year-old Wani had joined police as SPO in 2003 and since then he had participated in several anti-militancy operations in Kishtwar district. He was on militants' hit list. All his killers were locals and security forces had launched an operation in the Kursa Sounder forests to hunt them down. The operation was in progress when reports last came in this evening. This was the third killing by militants in Dachchan area in the past over one month. Ghulam Hussain Akhoon, a shopkeeper, of Pinjiari, Dachchan, and Mohammad Ramzan Khandey (42), a contractor, were killed by militants on July 20 and 21 respectively. While Khandey was slaughtered after he refused to pay ransom, Akhoon was shot dead as militants suspected him to be a police informer. |
