Clash between Bathindi residents- JDA over land dispute | | | ET REPORT JAMMU, Aug 31: A team of Jammu Development Authority (JDA) had to face stiff resistance from the residents of Bhatindi where it went to remove an alleged encroachment over a piece of land. However, timely action of police averted any untoward incident that might have occurred as the arrival of JDA men at the site infuriated the locals. As soon as the JDA team arrived in Bhatindi area to remove alleged encroachment of five kanals of land, the residents raised strong objection and entered into a verbal duel with the employees of the agency. To counter the claims of JDA,the residents of the area also produced documentary proof of the ownership of land and showed it to JDA employees. They raised anti-JDA slogans and stopped the JCB machine to raze the boundary wall of the disputed land as a mark of protest. The locals said that the wall was build three month ago and at that time none of the JDA officer visited the spot to stop the work and now when the wall has been constructed they came to demolish it. However, when contacted Director JDA Babu Ram said that the piece of land in Bhatindi area belongs to agency but some land mafia encroached upon it and today when our team of officers went there to remove the encroachment, the residents manhandled JDA employees. He said, "The land is situated behind police post Bathindi under Khasra number 260. JDA has 99 kanals of land under its possession there and out of that five kanal of land had been encroached." He added that earlier JDA was told that fencing work was being done by one of the government departments which later came out to be the handiwork of some land mafia. Director further said that documents provided by locals proved to be fake during scrutiny and a similar drive to vacate the land would be conducted shortly with the assistance of police. |
