Early Times Report
JAMMU, Aug 31: K K Pandoh -- senior general manager of J P Associates, Baglihar hydroelectric project, Chanderkote, at Ramban -- his two personal security officers (PSOs) and driver were this evening assaulted on the national highway at Pampore in Anantnag.
In the attack, while Pandoh, his PSOs and the driver sustained injuries, his Bolero jeep (JK02Q/2160) was also damaged badly.Pandoh, who is close to the corridors of power, was on his way to Chanderkote from Srinagar where he had gone in connection with some official work.
He told The Early Times over phone that some masked people, who were armed with cricket bats, hockey sticks and stones, intercepted their vehicle at Pampore at about 7.30 pm and attacked it from all sides all of a sudden.
They stoned the vehicle, breaking its glass panes. He said when they were being stoned from all sides, he asked his PSOs to exercise restraint and not to open fire.
Though the driver sustained serious injuries, he and the PSOs survived with minor stones wounds, he added.
Pandoh said displaying his presence of mind, the driver sped away from the spot and saved them all. "Had we stopped there for a minute, or so, we would have been killed," he asserted.
He said when his vehicle was attacked, there were no police personnel in the area for their protection. It was not possible for a common man to travel on the Anantnag road in the evening, he felt.
When contacted, Srinagar-Anantnag DIG Shafqat Watali said the alleged incident had not been reported to police. The Baglihar official should have intimated police about his journey for a safe passage, he added.
