| President Pratibha Patil visits Leh | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT
Leh, Sep 1: President Pratibha Devi Singh Patil, visited Leh and adjoining areas today.
She was received by Chief of Army Staff General VK Singh, General Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Northern Command Lt Gen BS Jaswal and General Officer Commanding, 14 Corps Lt Gen SK Singh along with other civilian dignitaries.
President Patil visited areas of Leh, which were ravaged by the recent cloudburst. During her visit, she was briefed on the situation in Ladakh, the efforts of the Army in providing succor to the locals, through rescue and relief operations and restoration of road connectivity along Zozila and Rohtang.
She visited Choglamsar Relief Camp and interacted with affected families.
On the occasion, President also distributed relief material to the people who lost their homes and near and dear ones due to the devastation.
Later, the President addressed the brave soldiers of 14 Corps at Rinchen Auditorium in Leh Garrison. She conveyed her appreciation to the troops for their dedication and commitment in guarding the Motherland in the most inhospitable terrain, and stressed the need for alertness at all levels.
