Despite govt claims, fake PRCs still being issued in J&K | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Sept 2: Despite vehement claims of state government of having stopped the issuance of fake Permanent Resident Certificates (PRCs), reports indicate that in the alleged connivance with revenue officials, residents of Punjab have succeed in getting the PRCs. Official sources said that these fake PRC holders are presently putting-up in Arnia area of district Jammu. Not only this, sources added that the accused have managed to purchase properties worth lakhs of rupees and enjoying all the citizenship rights of the state. Citing an example, officials said that one Pawan kumar son of Dwaraka Nath, resident of Tehsil Batala in Punjab has managed fake PRC and is presently living along with his three brothers in Arnia area of Jammu city. They added another person namely Dwaraka Nath son of Mela Ram also figured in the voter list of Batala in Punjab during Assembly elections of 1975 at serial number 1300. According to the sources, they have even succeeded in procuring ration card with the help of local Patwari. A revenue officer on the condition of anonymity said that only issuing authority or the police can take action against the accused. He also said that corruption at the top level of the revenue department also cannot be ruled out. This is not the isolated case; few days ago a similar case was also unearthed in district. In this case, two persons were arrested including a government official. Meanwhile, sources said that the state subjects are being sold to many outsiders, particularly Punjabi residents by charging Rs 20,000 to 40,000 from them. Persons who have acquired the state subjects through unfair means, sources said, have been successful in purchasing property and establishing business in Jammu." It is pertinent to mention here that State Subject Commission of inquiry was set up couple of years ago after the government was flooded with complaints regarding issuance of state subject certificates to persons from outside the state of Jammu and Kashmir. There are hundreds of complains lying with the commission but the commission has so far failed to take any concrete action against them.
