9/2/2010 9:01:55 PM
Early Times Report
JAMMU, Sept 2: State Health Wing of National Students Union of India (NSUI) today expressed serious concern over the epidemic threat looming large over the state.
We are planning to release a health leaflet regarding diarrhea outbreak in areas like Doda , Ramban and Banihal which will be distributed in the affected areas for public awareness, said Mubashar Mashqoor Mir , President of State Health Wing NSUI. Mir who is himself a MBBS scholar and a well known medical columnist appealed to the government to improve and optimize healthcare and sanitation machinery in these areas.
The diarrhoea epidemic has chiefly been due to poor sanitation and water management and needs to be corrected immediately said Mir. He urged the officials concerned with the health, PHE, municipality and engineering to come forward and contribute their professional expertise to help in recovery and remodeling of water resources and sanitation facilities in these areas.
He said that top medical scholars and doctors from GMC Jammu and ASCOMS are being contacted for formulating the pamphlet which will contain prevention steps, information and medical advices regarding the disease for the people of the affected areas. He also expressed concern over the fact that water management and purification mechanisms in the state are much below the required level as most of these areas lack water filtration plants and some plants which are established are still not fully functional. He also declared that NSUI is committed towards providing its support to the health machinery and will submit its feedback to Rashid Choudhary State president NSUI, Rahul Gandhi National Incharge NSUI, Ghulam Nabi Azad AICC Gen.Secy and Union Health Minister.
