| Cricket loosing its sheen | | | KHUSHWANT S RANIAL | 9/2/2010 9:48:11 PM |
| The game of cricket which has earned the heart of millions since its inception has come under deep scanner owing to few individuals maligned approach and corrupt deeds. Once rated to be a game of the gentlemen has now almost lost sheen after the surfacing of the now and then in the past few match fixing and spot fixing incidents .Surely such bad incidents have brought disrepute to the game of cricket and the true keen cricket lovers and its blind and crazy followers have directly taken it otherwise and seems in no mood to spare those whosoever involved in this game of cricket irrespect of holding stature ,status and position. God forbid if such sort of un respected things kept on floating and multiplying in the arena unchecked, then one may fear to lose the interest of watching it with great passion and the spirit of cricket may die soon. The games provides us amusement, are source of our recreation and scope of learning as well as stage of bridging the distant relations through interactions ,exchange of feelings and cultural thoughts but those who are the true carrier of this fields play themselves starts taking it other way ,definitely such actions are ample to highlight the plight of the future of the game. The recent spot fixing surfaced incident in which Pakistan cricket players have been found indulged and indicted for accepting a huge sum of 1,50,ooo pound amount for throwing three no balls at the planned stretch in the recent concluded test match between Pakistan and England at Lords itself reflects that how much standard of a cricketer has lowered. Had it been the first incident then things would have quiet different but perhaps our cricketers have taken it for granted that it costs nothing less than few matches fees cut punishment. Pakistan cricket has remained ever boiling either due to their players indecent tampering of the balls incidents , drugs involvement ,lack of internal team mismanagement ,grown indiscipline among the players ,involvement in the sex scandals issues ,captaincy issues ,on the field brawls incidents with the opposition team players or match fixing scandals etc .The things have always been horrifying and disturbing .Even recent spot fixing incident have put almost every Pak cricket lovers and especially public to feel ashamed of and even their Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Geelani have uttered his feeling with deep regrets and dismay stating such an incident has forced them to bow their head in shame .Not only this even the hardliners fundamentalists have gone to the extent of taking them to the task for their beloved cricketers mean act of indulging in bribery case. To greatest disgrace is the comment of the bookie Mazhar Majeed that Pakistan players are more interested in women ,wine and wealth rather than focussing in their game plan is the greatest slap on the faces of the entire cricket team and exposing their patriotic fervour ,they hold for their countrymen who spare their valuable time to seek entertainment by watching them playing both inside their home and abroad. Though it is another thing that Captain Salman Butt has refuted allegations but this time the video clips shown across the world do not stand in their favour and enough to place their integrity at stake. The ICC led by Sharad Pawar has instead of taking any strong action has allowed the entire Pakistan itinerary to go ahead and still wants to hold an enquiry in to the raised levelled allegations but such sort of over leniency definitely helps the erring and delinquent one to remain insincere towards his job .Only an exemplary punishment can deter the delinquent ones to take the law over and again into their own hands .The game of cricket has served us so much that now no one cannot digest more ill treatment by few bad mongers. No doubt lust of the money never dies and it grows with the years and burning needs of the day but cricketers if despite earning so much respect ,raised image, do indulges in such sort of ugly indecent acts then without wasting of the time ICC must set up a stronger anti corruption controlling unit which has stronger teeth to cut the hostile forces so that others do not indulge in such sort of things. The evil needs to up rooted and ugly practices be shunned. A sportsman is an ambassador of one country who represents the entire nation and promotes the cultural legacy. So if a single rotten egg seems to cause harm in any manner, that element should not be allowed to perpetuate his plans .If ever unholy things surfaces immediately such bad elements should be put under life ban like Hansie Cronze of South Africa Mohd.Azharrudin and Jadeja of India in the past. Especially in countries like India and Pakistan where cricket players are revered like God and every fan goes frenzy to see their countries win every time ,in such cases there is not an iota of scope of escapaism or overtly appeasement . With this particular incident now every issuesssss will definitely come under the scrutiny of the different authorities heading the different games. Since we are on the threshold of the Commonwealth games ,so the time has come for the authorities to be extra vigilant to ensure that proper doping tests of the participants take place well before the event and after the conclusion of a particular event so that no unscrupulous element may seek an undue advantage and the real entitled one and equally deserving one may not be relegated to the wall owing to the poor checking. The games are part of uncertainties and each player has his/her own day depending upon their own luck ,stamina ,will ,devotion ,dedication and above all ground factors .Thus keeping all these aspects in mind it becomes more imperative to strictly enforce stringent norms to make the games a fairer part of the life and true source of earning charm and retention of the glamour stay for ever in future as well intact state .In addition , those indulging in unlawful practices like bookies and fixers should be equally penalised heavily for the perpetuation of the crime .
