Saroori continues to be R&B Minister………....in hoardings!
9/3/2010 12:16:06 AM
EARLY TIMES REPORT
Jammu, Sept 2: High profiled politician GM Saroori is no more a minister in the coalition government in J&K but he continues to be so, at least in the hoardings spread across the nook and corner of Jammu city, may be in his hometown Inderwal and parts of district Doda as well.
Giant hoardings with colorful pictures of the minister in gestures atypical of the politicians coupled with some praises of the state government, accolades for the Centre and Congress leadership and of course the main contents filled with own departmental achievements or the new things introduced after he became the minister…….!
The details in each hoarding are different and therefore not too boring. Interestingly in some hoardings, Saroori, who ceases to be the minister for the last over a week now, is seen with dignitaries no less than the Chief Minister Omar Abdullah himself in life size hoardings and banners that float in some areas. A different one, surely is the hoarding, or a huge Board precisely , erected just outside the Civil Secretariat premises. It is different, and perhaps beneficial for its contents and message
No matter the hoarding shows GM Saroori as the R& B minister, in this, visibly devoid of any political connotations, the (ex) Minister has talked about 'do's and don'ts', rather the tips as to how the life of roads can become longer etc etc. It is a different matter that the Department authorities have chosen a wrong place for the hoarding for all the tips given are religiously followed or have to be necessarily followed at a place outside the Civil Secretariat. In other words this one could have been erected where these norms are brazenly flouted.
However, the argument here is not about the content of the hoardings, instead the hoardings itself which are still showing and depicting GM Saroori as the the R&B Minister. This goes without saying that the Department or his political supporters must have spent huge amount , first in making these hoardings and then in their display at the key corners and crossings, something which is contrary to the instructions of Congress high command and Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh in particular that since hoardings involve wasteful expenditure, it needs to be checked.
Those instructions, widely have been thrown to wind, almost by all the local Congress ministers and leaders.
But this, apart from the popularity tool, serves the twin purpose of highlighting the achievements as also the convenient mode to remain in public domain, such indulgence continues no matter a costly affair. It remains to be seen how long the concerned Department takes to remove these hoardings…….May be waiting for the incumbent or for some thing else……..?
