Ramban also facing diarrhoea threat | 72 cases reported so far; 39 admitted in hospital | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Sep 4: After playing havoc with the lives of Doda and Banihal people, diarrhoea is now spreading its tentacles in Ramban township, as 72 cases have already been reported in District Hospital (DH) Ramban so far. Out of these 39 patients of diarrhoea had been admitted in the hospital while there is an unconfirmed report that one person Mohd Irfan resident of Seri have lost his life owing to the same. But, ironically the administration has neither geared up the men and machinery to tackle with the diarrhoea which is fast taking the shape of an epidemic, nor accepting the fact that this disease has acquired deadly dimensions. In the reported death of Mohd Irfan due to negligence of doctor and others, Deputy Commissioner (DC) Ramban K B Magotra commented that the doctor has been placed under suspension. However, Superintendent of Police (SP) Ramban Mubassir Latifi gave people the assurance that necessary action would be taken against the culprits. It is pertinent to mention here that in district Doda alone over 1500 of diarrhea cases were reported between August 22 and September 3. And, in block Banihal of District Ramban the patients of diarrhoea is more than 900 between 27 August and September 3, 2010. It is mainly happening due to the consumption of contaminated water and unsafe sanitary conditions in the residential areas. Meanwhile, a team from New Delhi collected water and stool samples from the affected areas of Doda and Banihal. In Ramban also, the water supplied is not fully safe for drinking. Similarly, the sanitary condition is not better due to which there is every likelihood of the spread of diarrhoea.
