Rajouri, Sept 5: Although Government of India had banned pre-paid mobile connections and the service restored after assurances from the all cellular companies about proper verification of numbers, SIM cards of Airtel cellular company are being used unabatedly by the militants in border district Poonch. This was confirmed today after killing of a militant in Bhati Dhar area.
Sources said militants are using SIM cards of cellular companies in border areas especially in Poonch for contacting local guides. Although these militants are not getting the SIM cards issued in their names, they are either using their fake names or getting the SIM issued on the name of civilians. But sources said that cellular companies have failed to trace out the doubtful numbers till dates.
Sources said that the Pak ultra who happened to be Divisional Commander of Jaish-Mohammad outfit was enjoying Airtel cellular service against anti-India crusade. Police sources said that both the SIM were functional but at the last stage of encounter, the militant destroyed one SIM .However, the tag of Airtel is clearly visible on both. Besides these two SIM cards of Airtel company, militants were also using 2 sets of Nokia company.
Though the mobile numbers used in these SIM cards is yet to ascertained that nor has it been established as to who had supplied these cards to the Pak commander, but sources maintained that use of SIM cards of private cellular companies by the Pak militants can land the Airtel in some trouble. Sources said that police is consulting the experts to decode the numbers. Besides arrested militant Mohammad Zubair is being questioned about the supplier of these cards to them.
Additional Superintendent of Police Poonch Jugal Kishore has confirmed that police has recovered 2 SIM cards of Airtel Company from the militants. He said that the numbers are being ascertained by the experts. He however said that it is still unknown whether these numbers are pre-paid or post paid. “We have just culminated the operation and started investigation and cannot say anything more about the SIM cards till experts decode them”, he said adding that these SIM cards can provide them sufficient information about the strategies of the militants and will also expose the helpers.
