Teachers are nation builders: Bhalla

JAMMU, Sept 5: Minister for Revenue Raman Bhalla asked the teaching fraternity to act as foundation for creating responsible citizens and good human beings adding that it is impossible to imagine our lives without teachers.
Minister said this while addressing a large gathering at Teacher’s Day celebrations function held at Government Girls Higher Secondary School (GHHSS) Shastri Nagar here today. Bhalla said that teachers are the cornerstone of nation builders. He said that Teacher’s Day is celebrated from 1962 to show our acknowledgement and recognition of hard work put in by teachers towards our development.
He said that across the country, schools celebrate Teacher’s Day by allowing the senior students to pose as teachers for a day. It is a fun-filled activity, which is enjoyed by both the acting teachers and their junior students. Minister said that teacher is like a guide, who helps the students in each and every sphere of life by giving the right advice adding that none of the achievers in this world has attained a feat without the guidance of a teacher.
He asked the students to maintain traditional ‘Guru Shiksha Parampara’, and urged the students to carry forward this glorious legacy to achieve success in their careers and to become proud citizens of this great nation. Describing teachers as pillars of nation, Minister said that they had greater role to play for building the country a strong and prosperous nation.
He asked teachers to impart moral education side by side academic education to the students for strengthening the bonds of brotherhood and communal harmony. He said that universalisation of education was top priority of the coalition government. Reiterating the commitment of the present Government in spreading the reach of education at every corner of the State, Bhalla said that government has taken many initiatives in this regard by upgradation of existing schools, especially in remote and far-off areas so that the students could get the education at their doorsteps.
Later, the Minister also distributed mementos among the teachers and lecturers whose classes fared well in 2009-10 academic session results. At Shastri Nagar, construction work of two lanes and drains were started in the presence of the Minister, for which Rs. 5 lakh has been earmarked. He asked Jammu Municipal Corporation to complete works with stipulated time frame by using quality material.
At Malik Market near Umar Colony, the Minister assessed the locals problems being faced by them in the colony and asked the concerned authorities to prepare the estimates for construction of lanes and drains besides upgradation of drinking water facilities and submit the same for funding so that the works could be started for the benefit of the people.
Chief Education Officer (CEO) Jammu Natha Ram Dingra, Principal of School Gurcharan Singh, teachers, lecturers, students and parents were present on the occasion.
