9/5/2010 11:01:50 PM
EARLY TIMES REPORT
Udhampur, Sep 5: It is after eighteen years, more than five thousand staunch worshippers of Lord Vasuki left for Kailash Kund at Seoj Dhar area which was earlier known as hub of terrorists. Though it was a fourteen hours on foot tough terrain journey by climbing one pick after another to reach at the destination still the religious devotion kept the pilgrims going on.
A Journey to Eternal Faith Abode of the mythological serpent God, Lord Vasukinag Ji, the sacred Kailash Kund, located at 16000ft above sea level is an enchanted crater lake which remains frozen for a greater part of the year. The scenic environs of this hallowed lake will come alive to the chants of thousands of devotees who will undertake an arduous trek to take a Holy dip in the lake. Believed to be as Holy as the sacred Mansarover lake in China, a dip in the ice-cold waters of Kailash Kund is believed to wash away the sins of the yatries and make their wishes come true.
Legend has it that the lake is also visited by Lord Shiva who described it to Mata Parvati as one of the most important pilgrimages of Northern India in the 'Vasuki Puran'. The yatries, while taking the Holy dip, also worship the Lake, Lord Shiva and Sh. Vasukinag Ji.
“to revive this traditional old pilgrimage after a gap of eighteen years, we had made elaborate security arrangements and had sanitized the whole 26km route right from Dudu to Kailash Kund”, said Amit Sharma, Sub Divisional Magistrate of area who was leading the yatra.
Earlier due to security problem the Yatra was stopped from this route in the year 1992 and Bhaderwah was the only place from where it remained uninterrupted. Every year worshippers of Lord Vasukinag approached govt. to allow them through this route but denied the permission. This year, joint efforts of many political parties and social organizations yield result and yatra was allowed to go through this route also.
The joy of devotees for getting government permission for this pilgrimage was visible from their faces and some of them become emotional, while some celebrated it by dancing Bhangra and traditional Kud dance. Dr Nirmal Singh Ex –president BJP, Krishan Chander Bhagat MLA Chenani-Ghordi, Pawan Dev Singh Youth president Panthers Party, Dina Nath Bhagat BJP district president of Udhampur, N S Pathania vice president State Youth congress also joined Kud dance who were among the pilgrims.
Among devotees women out numbered the male and some of them were taking their small kids with them on this tough journey. A team of doctors and government officials with ration also accompanied yatries. Pilgrims will be back on the third day.
