Minister may come, minister may go but Advisor is for ever! | Of Omar's double standards | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Jammu, Sept 5: Former Roads and Buildings Minister GM Saroori and the Chief Minister's Advisor, Mubarak Gul were in news recently for similar reasons. Maintaining `high standards' of accountability, the Chief Minister dismissed Saroori. People expected similar action against Mubarak Gul. But shockingly the Chief Minister forgot his standards of accountability. Gul's case was pushed under the carpet. The son of Chief Minister's Advisor carried as many as twenty-eight paper slips to the examination hall to pass his law examination. The cheat was arrested by a defiant Jammu University administration and a strong case has been made against him.Earlier a girl was arrested for impersonation. She has been accused of impersonation on behalf of Saroori's daughter. The case was immediately entrusted to Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) for investigation. Surprisingly Saroori welcomed the investigation. A few days later Mubarak Gul's son, a law student at the University of Jammu, was found cheating in examination by the invigilating staff. The Advisor's son was found in possession of 28 slips relevant to the question paper. A case has been framed but Gul survived and still gives `valuable advice' to the Chief Minister. The day Saroori was removed witnessed massive reshuffle in the administration. The administrative secretary of the Works Department was relieved off his charge and attached with the General Administration Department (GAD). The removal of secretary, according to Saroori's supporters, reflects he was removed for political reasons. Saroori, it may be mentioned, has close proximity with former Chief Minister, Ghulam Nabi Azad. Saroori in absence of Azad, it is believed, exercised great influence in whole of Doda district much to National Conference's dismay. The National Conference leadership tried in vain to show that Saroori removal was not politically motivated. A Schedule Caste -OBC leader Ram Paul was taken to the altar to pave way for Saroori removal. Saroori's removal, according to sources in the Congress Party is going to have its impact on the organization. Angry Azad loyalists, sources said, are waiting for "appropriate time" to strike back. |
