Jaganoo residents face acute water shortage | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Udhampur, Sep 6: Despite record monsoon in Jammu region this year, the residents of Jaganoo area, located just few kilometers away from Udhampur town, are facing number of problems in their day to day life due to acute shortage of water. Many households in the area still are deprived of basic amenities like potable water due to administration’s nonchalant and indifferent attitude towards the public grievances. The residents alleged that the Public Heath Engineering (PHE) department officials have developed a nexus with influential people of the area and have provided them illegal connections. “The influential people, who had been given two to three illegal connections, have installed water boosters on main supply line thus depriving other people from adequate potable water. Despite repeated pleas to the administration particularly the PHE authorities, no action has been taken so far,” alleged Vijay Laxmi, a local resident. She alleged, “The PHE employees, who had been transferred from the area about five to six months back, still are working here as they have developed vested interests and are giving undue favour of influential people.” She demanded that all such officials should immediately be shifted so that smooth supply is restored in the area. “The department had laid pipes for water supply in 1975. While the population in area has increased several times, the pipeline has not been upgraded due to which local people had been suffering badly,” she further alleged. Another resident of the area also shared the same views and warned that if the regular supply of water is not restored in the area soon, they would launch an agitation against the department. |
