JUTA celebrates Teachers’ Day
Felicitates retire teachers of JU

JAMMU, Sep 6: Jammu University Teacher’s Association (JUTA) celebrated Teachers’ Day at Brigadier Rajender Singh Auditorium, University of Jammu. Prof. Varun Sahni Vice-Chancellor of the University was the Chief Guest on the occasion. JUTA felicitated the teachers, who superannuated during the year 2009-2010 for their selfless and dedicated services by presenting a mementos and citations read by their respective Heads of the Department recalling their contributions to the institution.
Dr. Vinay Chauhan, General Secretary, JUTA welcomed the gathering and highlighted the significance and relevance of Teachers’ Day in context of society and nation building. Prof. Dalip Singh Jamwal, President JUTA besides deliberating on the role of the teachers in building of the society, also raised the genuine demands of the teachers which includes implementation of Sixth Pay Commission recommendations in totality, payment of arrears due to the teachers of the university, parity of remunerations for evaluation and other paid assignments of the university at par with University of Kashmir. Prof. Varun Sahni congratulated and appreciated the new elected JUTA team for initiating the healthy practice of felicitating the superannuated teachers on Teachers’ Day. In response to the demands raised by the President, Prof. Sahni, informed the gathering that university is concerned for the same and has already raised the same at the appropriate quarters.
Prof M.R Rana, Prof J.R Dhotra, Prof Aruna Suri, Prof Nirmal Gupta, Dr Subhash C Gupta, Dr Brij Bloera, Prof Rita Mendonca and others from various teaching departments of the university were felicitated at the function. The Directors and Heads who read the citations were Prof. Neelu Rohmetra, Director, The Business School, Prof. Lokesh Verma, Head, Department of Education, Prof. Posh. Chadak, Head, Department of English, Prof. D.S. Bhau, Director, Physical Education, Prof. Jasbir Singh, Head, Department of Economics, Dr. Anil Raina, Head Department of Environment Science.
The teachers who expressed their views on Teachers’ Day were Prof R.D Sharma, Prof Rekha Choudhary, Prof Deepshikha Kotwal, Dr Arvind Jasrotia, Dr Yash Pal Sharma, and Dr Jaspal Singh.
The proceeding was conducted by Dr Ravinder Singh, Joint Secretary, JUTA, whereas the vote of thanks was presented by Dr Prakash C. Antahal, Vice- President, JUTA.
