9/6/2010 10:40:52 PM
EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, Sept 6: In a rare example of its kind, a Government Primary School has virtually become a high risk zone as far as the life and security of the kids are concerned. Government Primary School Chak Bajiro in Tehsil Bisnah of district Jammu housed in three rooms having strength of 60 students is without boundary walls and an open Septic tank. It is almost 10 feet deep and at present, is filled with rain water.
Not only is this, there is also a pond nearby the school.
Locals informed that 2 teachers posted in the school had to visit the school before time only because of safety of the students.
Locals also informed that because of the absence of boundary walls, outsiders visit there frequently and with the sunset boozers and gamblers start wandering there.
About the lack of the facilities in the school, fans are available in the rooms but without electricity connection.
This is happening despite the tall claims of state government particularly its education department to provide the quality education at the door steps of the common masses, the condition on the ground shows a dismal picture.
Many government schools are without essential infrastructure, while some are even without teachers.
Sarpanch of the area, Dharam Chand said that the pond adjoining the school was posing threat to the lives of the small children. Few days back a student lost his life in the pond. He also said that nothing was done by the concerned departments even after repeated representations.
Chief Education Officer (CEO) Natha Ram stated that the matter was not in his knowledge. He is taking this problem seriously and would visit the school soon to take stock of the situation.
He further said that the department is committed to provide all facilities to the school. The work of the construction of wall and covering the Septic Tank will start soon.
