Instead of jail for illegal LoC crossing, PoK woman gets eid gifts | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Sep 6: Due to the prevailing animosity on borders, any illegal border crosser is sure to be arrested and put in jail, but a woman, who last night entered Poonch from across the Line of Control (LoC), was pushed back by army with eid gifts as a goodwill gesture. Official sources said a tight vigil was being maintained all along the LoC last night following inputs that militants could make infiltration bids. It was at about 12.45 am when an alert army patrol sighted a woman entering India from the Maki post area of Chakan da Bagh, Poonch, the sources added. When contacted, 8 Kumaon regiment CO Amit Lotyal said the woman was captured by the jawans after she entered the Indian territory. During questioning, she identified herself as Nazi Begum, wife of Muneer Hussain of Polas, PoK. As the woman said she had nothing to do with militancy and had entered Indian territory inadvertently, she was given eid gifts as a goodwill gesture and later pushed back to PoK from Chakan da Bagh, the CO informed. When contacted, SSP, Poonch, Manmohan Singh said he had no information about the incident. |
