Makes uninvited presence in CM's function, lauds him-all to project demands | | | KUNAL SHRIVATSA EARLY TIMES REPORT Jammu, Sept 6: The Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) which always claims to champion the cause of Jammuites had to cut a sorry figure today when one of its MLAs not only attended a political function held by the ruling National Conference (NC) but also showered praises on Chief Minister Omar Abdullah. What made the position embarrassing for the party was the fact that concerned MLA was not officially invited by the organizers of the function. The latter, however, managed to 'say & seek' something for his constituency from the cm freely, what he could not have otherwise, given the busy schedule of Omar. Since Chief Minister Omar Abdullah had to inaugurate 19.2 Kilometer long 132 KV Burn-Siot-Kalakote transmission line constructed at a cost of Rs 6.64 crores at Bern, the Block Bhalwal unit of NC, taking advantage of Omar's presence around the official venue organized a political rally at a near by venue-Government Higher Secondary School. In the political function stage-managed by NC, apparently only supporters of the coalition in general were supposed to come but astonishingly the BJP MLA from Raipur-Domana constituency Bodh Raj Bodhi also 'graced' the occasion that too without an invite. It is not only that MLA landed his party in an awkward position but he himself had to go through embarrassing situation right from his arrival and stay at the venue. When Bodh Raj reached the venue and tried to proceed towards the dais, the former was stopped by the Special Security Group of Chief Minister as they did not recognize him and refused to permit him to move further. It was only after some locals intervened and told security personnel that he is an elected member of the State assembly following which the SSG men allowed the 'unrecognizable' MLA to move ahead. Clearing the security hurdle, peculiar situation further awaits BJP MLA at the dais where a large number of dignitaries including Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, Minister for Health Sham Lal Sharma, Minister for Higher Education Abdul Gani Malik, Minister of State for Power Shabir Kahn and several others were occupying the chairs. The podium which was full to its capacity could not have accommodated Bodh Raj, who stood in the middle looking hither-thither for a chair but to his utter dismay there was not even a single vacant seat. Seeing the MLA standing there, somebody asked the organizers to arrange a seat which the latter provided by placing a chair. Finally, the 'honourable' MLA got a chair to sit alongside Chief Minister. But there was some more drama to unfold as Bodh Raj also addressed the gathering wherein he projected some demands for his assembly segment and surprisingly praised Omar Abdullah, perhaps forgetting that he is member of one of the major opposition parties of the state. When Early Times spoke to BJP state President Shamsher Singh Manhas, he expressed ignorance of the whole episode. Manhas said " I have no knowledge of party MLA Bodh Raj attending the political function of NC. Even if he took part in the programme, we will first verify whether it was an official function or political rally." Though BJP president tried to cover up the party MLA's goof up, a senior leader of National Conference seeking anonymity confirmed that it was purely a NC show and there was nothing official about it adding that BJP MLA was not invited on the occasion. |
